2025 – Water Rescue Robot

This is a team project, and I served as the CDO (Chief Data Officer) in charge of data technology. Developed to prevent drowning and provide fast, affordable water rescue support, the robot automatically identifies people in distress and ejects an inflatable life jacket within seconds.

My Contributions:

  • Designed ejection mechanism and tested gear ratios for performance
  • Assembled motors, wired CAN bus, and soldered electrical systems
  • Optimized rotation speed, aiming accuracy, and deployment stability

Tech Used:

YOLOv8n (trained on 10,000+ images), 2-DOF arm, four-roller ejection, carbon fiber composite.

Challenge & Solution:

The ejection mechanism wobbled during operation. I designed custom structural connectors in SolidWorks to stabilize the entire system.

Outcome:

Autonomous detection, precise life-jacket delivery, and high portability for lakes and rivers. This project applied computer vision to real-life rescue and transformed competition robotics skills into tangible civilian impact.

This project participated in the China International College Students’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition co-sponsored by 12 ministries and commissions including the Ministry of Education of China, and won the National Gold Award with a winning rate of only 20 out of 6 million participants. The official award list of the Ministry of Education is available at: http://www.moe.gov.cn/srcsite/A08/s7056/202602/W020260227619308729699.pdf, and this project is the 10th project on the list.
